smart analytics – BMWK supports international cooperation network for three more years

(Stuttgart) – The Central Innovation Programme for SMEs (ZIM) run by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) is funding an international cooperation network – smart analytics – for a further three years. This competence network consists of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), universities, hospitals and scientific institutes from Germany and other countries that are working together to develop innovative analytical methods and applications for healthcare, industry and research. Initial research and development projects are already underway.

Originally limited to one and a half years, smart analytics started in May 2020. Under the direction of BioRegio STERN Management GmbH and the international coordinator ISOCS (International Society for Olfaction and Chemical Sensing), an active ZIM cooperation network with 15 companies, 11 German research partners and five partners from France and Austria has now been created. It offers everyone involved ideal conditions to obtain BMWK funding for innovative research and development projects. During Phase I, which covered a three-year period, projects from the STERN BioRegion benefiting from total funding of nearly two million euros have been initiated within the framework of the smart analytics network. One recent example is NanoR – a newly funded project by 4base lab AG from Reutlingen – which has set out to develop new approaches for the testing and quality control of mRNA-based vaccines, with the aim of reducing the error rates for synthesised mRNA and ensuring their quality.

In Phase II, which has now been approved, there are many further promising projects in the pipeline. Dr. Verena Grimm, Project Manager at BioRegio STERN Management GmbH, is therefore delighted about getting the go-ahead: “Our smart analytics network is a platform for highly innovative companies from very different areas of analytics. Combining intelligent technologies and analytical methods has the potential to create new prospects for wide-ranging areas of application.”

BioRegio STERN Management GmbH is coordinating the international smart analytics ZIM network in Germany. The project is being funded by the BMWK and currently includes 31 partners from Europe. Other companies are welcome to become project partners. This will give them access to targeted support so that they can submit equally promising research and development applications to ZIM as necessary.
